Matthew Thwaites - Technology Leader with Elite Academic, Army Roots
U.S. Army veteran Matthew Thwaites is a data-driven leader currently serving as director of analytics at Open Loot Studios in Austin, Texas. He earned his MBA from the University of Pennsylvania, graduating with a 3.97 GPA. He was named a Palmer Scholar (top 5 percent of the class) and received the Hildebrandt Award as the top student in the statistics department. Matthew Thwaites was also the Wharton Engagement Fellow Team Leader, leading a team of six to develop computer algorithms that optimized the performance of Division I sports teams.
Prior to Wharton, Matthew Thwaites graduated cum laude from Yale University with a 3.85 GPA. He was president of Trumbull College (elected by a 450-person student body) and was a Presidential Fellow, representing Yale in the Center for the Study of the Presidency and Congress. Matthew Thwaites was also a four-year varsity track and cross-country athlete, recording multiple top-10 all-time performances in long-distance events.
After college, Matthew Thwaites spent nearly a decade as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, starting out in the 82nd Airborne Division, moving to the 75th Ranger Regiment, and finally 1st Cavalry Division (company commander for 3rd Armored Brigade Combat Team). As a commander, he led soldier training, medical support, and logistics operations while also managing over $50 million in property. Matthew Thwaites consistently ranked among the top officers in his peer group and placed 2nd in the Army’s Best Ranger Competition. Today, he applies that same rigor to analytics leadership with Open Loot Studios.
